What To Expect
Playing Shadowstone
- Shadowstone is a 1-4 player tactics roguelite that touches on the darker side of the Sunderlands. Fight through areas filled with brutal enemies and an unyielding Corruption that only grows in strength.
- Choose Your Party
- Each run must have a minimum of 2 Heroes, max 4
- Choose between the Berserker, Pyromancer, Ranger, Rogue, and Witch
- Unlock the Assassin after playing the Rogue.

- Select Your Ritual
- Once your party has been selected, you’ll be prompted to select a Ritual. A Ritual is a powerful tool that your entire party must decide on that will unleash a potent spell after all requirements are fulfilled. You’ll unlock more Rituals by progressing through the game and through individual Heroes.

- Accept Your Path
- Upon selecting your Ritual, your first encounter awaits. If you survive, you’ll be able to select a Path.
- You’ll only have one Path option during your first run, but by completing more quests, you’ll unlock more pathways and even more rewards.

- Quests
- Earn powerful level ups and Spells the more you progress through Shadowstone. You can view your Quests from the character select screen, then selecting “Quests”
Surviving in Shadowstone
- Get as far as you can each run. Become comfortable with defeat, and grow stronger with each consecutive run.
- Each combat encounter encompasses:
- Hero Phase - All players take their turn during this phase.
- Hero Turn - Each player (or heroes if solo) takes their actions and uses Potions. Certain environmental effects may go off at this turn.
- Tip: You can toggle on/off the End Turn button, in case you forget to use your potions before the end of your turn!
- Enemy Phase - Foes take their actions, and will usually focus on the Heroes that went first, or heroes that are closest to them.
- Ally Phase - If you have any Allies in an encounter, they will take their turn here. Allies can be summoned via a Ritual, or found in random encounters.
- Round End - All actions are wrapped up, environmental hazards go off. If all enemies are defeated, players are automatically taken to the next area.
- Hero Phase - All players take their turn during this phase.
- An Encounter ends when all enemies or bosses have been defeated.
- Each combat encounter encompasses:

- Corruption
- Corruption is a mechanic within Shadowstone that increases the longer you linger in Encounters. Each Round will increase the Corruption meter, up to a maximum of 6 Corruption.
- Each level of Corruption adds another consequence for the rest of your run. These consequences can include:
- Shame: After defeating an enemy, move 3 in a random direction.
- Guilt: After defeating an enemy, gain a x2 Weak debuff
- Paranoia: After the end of your turn, deal 2 damage to any adjacent heroes.

- Lives
- You and your party share 2 Hearts, and any 1 downed Hero will not only increase Corruption, but remove 1 heart. After the second heart disappears, the run ends.
- Hero Talent Tree
- Each time you complete a run, the Heroes that completed the run will receive Talent Points, which they can use to increase their Talent Tree. Each node on their Talent Tree adds something to their kit to make them even stronger for the next run.
- Heroes can gain unique Spells, Rituals, and Talismans from their respective Talent Trees.
- You can also unlock more starting Health, bonus additions like starting runs with a Talisman or Potion, and ways to empower your Fate Cards.

Choosing Your Paths
