We’re Honored to Join Forces with the ESA Foundation and GGP to Offer Two Aspiring Game Creators a Custom Mentorship Program and Assistance with College Expenses
Earlier this year we announced our partnership with Gay Gaming Professionals (GGP) and the ESA Foundation to award two college scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year. Today we’re excited to announce our extremely deserving recipients!
Meet Randen: Born and raised in the San Joaquin Valley, Randen is currently attending the University of California, Irvine as a senior in Computer Game Science. His ambition is to rise through the ranks of game development as a narrative designer, until eventually becoming a creative director on his own IP for a major studio, incorporating both his identity and love for branching storytelling in his games. Outer Wilds by Mobius Digital is Randen's favorite overall game, for its masterful blend of environmental storytelling, intuitive puzzle design, and sense of endless, yet melancholic cosmic exploration.
Meet Devyn: Devyn grew up in Eureka, California before moving to Portland, Oregon where they attended high school. They now live in Salt Lake City, pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Games with a Minor in Drawing at the University of Utah. In the games industry as a 2D artist and writer, Devyn hopes to push and elevate games as a craft by diversifying stories that are told and types of people who inhabit those stories, making (and hopefully someday leading the creation of) the kinds of powerful experiences that inspired them to pursue games as a career. Devyn has too many deeply cherished games to pick a favorite, but consistently the games that leave the longest standing impact on them are obscure ones that have a unique execution of a premise and impactful storytelling, including Die Anstalt, Will You Ever Return, and The Path.
Dreamhaven's scholarship program recognizes students who are actively involved in service or volunteer work within the LGBTQ+ community, and who are attending an accredited four-year college or university in the Fall. The two recipients will each receive $5,000 toward tuition and school expenses, and participate in a Dreamhaven mentorship program throughout the 2022-2023 school year.
Huge congratulations to Randen and Devyn, and to all the future game creators among this year’s GGP and ESA Foundation scholarship winners!
